I am concerned as I am sure many are who live in the Ellenton/Parrish area of Manatee County off Interstate 75 at exit 224. The resent tragic accident and death of another innocent resident of this county on this terrible track of highway is becoming far too common anymore.
We that live here and have to exit at 224 north during any type of back-up on I-75 sit in fear in that far right lane when exiting. You feel like a sitting duck when looking through the rear-view mirror wondering if this, too, could be your fate.
I have been concerned why this terrible exit has not at all kept up with the growth and development east of I-75. Every week now I read of the thousands of homes being planned and built for this region, yet we see no infrastructure reports to better handle the traffic and safety of us as residents.
The funding spent on the addition of all the palms and special plants at the Ellenton interchange to me are a waste when those funds could have been better spent providing signs leading up to this exit, directing traffic away from the right exit lane or slowing down traffic during peak hours over the bridge.
The interchange is trash-laden and poorly maintained in general.
The large new digital sign approaching this area is useless if it is not being used effectively. A warning message at least may help slow people down.
How many more deaths and major accidents will it take to get the attention of our leadership in our area to do something?
I am tired of living in fear for my own family and the possible the loss of anyone's loved ones enduring such a tragedy.
