Garbage: To bid or not to bid, that is the question.
Manatee County has done an excellent job keeping the costs down on sanitation services. But can they do better?
Looking at the counties (unincorporated areas only) both similar in size and surrounding Manatee County, I have compiled the following information:
Four counties have automated cart/tote service, once per week.
Never miss a local story.
Two counties have automated cart/tote service, two times per week.
Two counties have the unincorporated resident's contract directly with individual haulers.
Manatee County (unincorporated areas) have two franchise haulers picking up garbage two times per week.
Manatee County, what does that tell you? Why do other counties have automated cart/tote services? What other new technologies are out there?
Why do other counties have once-a-week garbage pickup? What cost savings are there on once-a-week garbage pickup?
Answer these questions and then tell the residents of Manatee County (unincorporated) we don't need to go out for bid.
