Call me crazy, but does anyone else think that the Bradenton Beach mayor's live-in girlfriend/business partner, Tjet Martin, running for commissioner is a conflict of interest?
Any concerns of potentially violating Sunshine Laws since they live together? I think it's safe to venture a guess what they will be talking about "behind closed doors."
Lately, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the City of Bradenton Beach. Two names that appear most often are Mayor Bill Shearon and Tjet Martin. The mayor has already been accused of abusing his power and using bully tactics.
Rather than running on her own merit, it seems that Martin has already "set the tone" for her campaign. She reported her opponent, Jan Vosburgh, to a state regulatory agency, claiming that Vosburgh didn't have a lodging license.
Vosburgh has since been cleared of this claim.
Oddly, Martin and Shearon were found to be operating their rental business without a license. Hmm?
Martin says she inquired to the state about people she knew who had rental agencies, so that she could make them aware. Really? She claims people thanked her for telling them -- for reporting them?
Martin also filed an extensive public records request of Vosburgh's emails. Martin "likes to stir the pot."
Does the city need someone who will "stir the pot" or someone who will work to unite the city to implement positive changes?
Shearon and Martin have been accused of creating a "hostile work place." The mayor challenges that remark by saying "because people are being held accountable."
Yet he told Jan Vosburgh that he had no control over Martin, and she is her own person. If elected commissioner, will Martin be held accountable -- by the mayor?
