I read the article on salt in a recent Herald and wish to comment and may help someone down the line.
For more than 20 years I have not used salt in my diet. I thought I got plenty of salt from canned food, eating out, etc.
Last fall I was tired all the time and was sleeping 10-12 hours a night. Finally it was getting worse, and I went to the doctor and found out a small part of my heart was not functioning properly.
A small part of the heart was not moist like it should be; the doctor said salt is needed to keep the heart moist.
So now salt is back in my diet, and the doctor said my heart is doing well.
