Concerning the events in Ferguson, Mo.: For much too long (decades, in fact), there has been widespread acceptance of police misconduct, most of which is obviously criminal behavior. There is no excuse for beating up innocent citizens for nothing but perceived "disrespect."
I've been told that this is for their "own protection," because if they attempt to defend themselves, it's a serious criminal offense (i.e., assault and battery of a police officer).
The more we accept this obviously criminal misconduct of our police officers "to serve and protect," the more that they will try and get away with. And believe me, they get away with pretty much everything, including murder.
Is this militaristic response to their own misconduct acceptable to you?
Never miss a local story.
I grew up in a small town in Massachusetts (liberal state, but a town on the Connecticut border run by rabid right-wingers). Not many blacks, who I admit take the brunt of these bigots, but that doesn't stop the police force, who regularly deprive innocent citizens (ones who don't vote the "right" way) of their civil rights.
And if there are any complaints (and believe me, there are many), the logs are changed to protect the criminal cops.
Until we take a stand against the "not-so-serious" police criminal activities, we can expect a police state in this country that the same right-wingers warned us about in the 1940s and '50s with concern about the Soviet Union. Think about it, and vote accordingly.
