I met Frank Brunner when he was a student at Manatee High and I was the fire chief for the City of Bradenton.
It was homecoming week, and we were scheduled to work a bonfire at the school. I normally send one of my firefighters to do the stand-by and clean-up. Since I was a Manatee alumnus, I decided to take the duty.
As the 400-plus students were leaving, I began cleaning up and extinguishing the fire. Normally it would take about two hours to put it out and rake the site.
As I was working, a young man came over to me and said, "Sir, can I help you?" With his help we were able to complete the job in an hour.
Never miss a local story.
That was the night I met Frank Brunner.
I have followed Frank's career to this date. I remember him doing back flips in the end zone every time Manatee scored a touchdown. I remember when he was appointed to West Point. I remember when he served his country in Operation Desert Storm.
When Frank was on the Manatee school board, he did an outstanding job for our children. During his tenure, the board was recognized by the state for excellence in fiscal management.
It was a time when the people of Manatee County were proud of our schools and school board. We had 25 "A" schools and were the envy of many other districts throughout Florida.
Frank has excellent leadership qualities. He knows the district and its needs. He is a man of integrity, which is one of the many reasons I am supporting Frank Brunner for school board.
I am also asking all my friends to get out and vote and support Frank Brunner.
