This is in response to the Aug. 12letter to the editor by Ann Reynolds, "Manatee County Commissioner Carol Whitmore also rejected Long Bar Pointe."
I do not know if Ann Reynolds attended the Aug. 6, 2013 commission meeting at the Civic Center, but if she did she would know that two votes occurred. All of the commissioners voted against the text amendment to the comprehensive plan -- there was NO swing vote.
The map amendment, which changed Residential 9 to mixed use, was approved for transmittal to the state by Commissioners Larry Bustle, Betsy Benac, Vanessa Baugh and Whitmore. Commissioners Robin DiSabatino, Michael Gallen and John Chappie realized that this could open the door to water dependent uses and wisely voted not to transmit.
There was definitely no "swing vote" here, other than Commissioner Whitmore's constant swing toward approval of developer and phosphate strip mining projects which come before the board.
In November, vote Terri Wonder for commissioner at-large. Her platform is countywide and for the people (www.terriwonderforcommissioner.com).
