Another smear campaign against Frank Brunner!
When you can't be positive about an incumbent, go negative against the challenger! Thus, Pat Whitesel's mud-slinging against Frank Brunner (Letters, Aug. 6).
1. Whitesel conveniently ignores all the accomplishments in Frank Brunner's 10 years (1996-2006) on the school board (as cited in his campaign material).
10 consecutive years of lowering the tax millage rate.
Never miss a local story.
Manatee schools awarded the Gold Seal for "Best Financial Management Practices in the State of Florida" by Gov. Jeb Bush.
Manatee schools rated in top five in Florida for percent of tax dollars going into the classroom (instead of administration).
Increased graduation rates, decreased dropout rates.
Florida rating 75 percent of Manatee schools "A" or "B" -- none getting "D" or "F"!
Not bad, especially compared to the present!
2. Now for Ms. Whitesel's slurs and smears.
She claims Frank Brunner was a bully because the mayor didn't get her way. Whitesel has things reversed. A bully threatens to harm others, not refuses to fulfill all their wishes.
Seemingly, Frank Brunner didn't do enough for Ms. Whitesel. However, school board members are supposed to work for the good of the whole county, not just where they live; and Frank Brunner did and will.
Does Ms. Whitesel imply that Mr. Brunner was the only person on the school board? Evidently the whole school board likewise rejected what this former mayor thought should be done.
Finally, let's try to be objective, logical and factual. To say Frank Brunner "could care less" and then accuse him of a "pretense of caring" is subjective, illogical and untruthful.
