We are moving forward!
One could easily compare the school district under the leadership of Rick Mills to a train that has stopped to switch engines.
When the new engine is first connected, all of the couplings are in their extended state. A locomotive doesn't have the power to start the train moving all at once. There must be slack in the couplings so that the locomotive starts the first car and takes up the slack between the first and second cars, then the moving locomotive and first car start the second car moving, taking up the slack between cars two and three and so on until the entire train is moving.
Rick Mills is obviously the new engine. Our education train is finally starting to move forward after many years of negative inertia.
Never miss a local story.
There has been a fiscal turnaround. The $12.5 million budget surplus indicates a major recovery. For the first time in over eight years, the academic scores are improving. A few weeks ago Florida Education Commissioner Pam Stewart singled out Manatee County as one of the shining stars for improved student performance.
This election should be about these issues.
Julie Aranibar and Karen Carpenter have proven their commitment to the students of this district. They have fought hard to help us get to this place.
Let's keep the forward momentum by re-electing them both and watch the train pick up momentum.
