There were many thoughts that came to mind about what I was going to say in this letter. The words "Goodbye America" about sums up, in total, my thoughts and feelings.
I remember the fields and woods of Virginia where I roamed and hunted as a child in the early 1940s. There were no fences, not many farms, clean woods, just peaceful surroundings. Doors were not locked, people were polite and helpful towards each other when in need. Respect was shown in most all occasions, especially towards law enforcement and elders. Government was away in Washington, not really part of everyday life. Farming was a way of life. Some had large farms, some had smaller ones. Everybody was more or less satisfied with their way of life. Other parts of the world in general as we knew... were far away.
As time went on the world got smaller, the government became bigger and more and more involved in our life. Technology started to become advanced and the way of life seemed to be more rushed and involved.
I feel America is on the edge of never being again as it once was... the land of the free and the home of the brave. Thousands are crossing our borders with no restraint, government everywhere in our lives, respect towards others in general is a thing of the past. People want something for nothing. The majority of our younger generations are completely ignorant of the U.S. and world affairs. Every day you read things in the papers and see things on TV that are outrageous and almost beyond belief. Drugs are rampant, killings are an everyday event. Families as we know them are few and far between. Is Nero about to play the fiddle? Lord help us.
Never miss a local story.
