The July 31 letter to the Bradenton Herald, Support the Obama/Reagan bill: Grow America Act by Dough McClaugherty, raised some memories of why, after 53 years as a staunch Republican and Republican fund raiser, I changed voter registration from Republican to Independent in 2010.
It became apparent to me that the Republican Party has moved from a positive influence and champion of middle class mobility to the party of special interests, big money, and obstructionism. Call it the "Gang Of Profiteers or, in the case of Republican House and Senate members, "Pariahs," at the expense of the average American.
In my opinion, megadonors to any party are interested in their own vested interests, "profits and power," before the average American. The jackals in Congress, with some exceptions, are little more than pimping for the money mongers. Please do not consider my opinions as endorsement of the Democratic, Libertarian or Tea Parties, but only a view from an independent perspective.
Right or wrong, President Obama appears, as Mr. McClaugherty points out, to be more in tune with the traditional Republican philosophy to rebuild America. Unfortunately the current Republican philosophy is negative. Nothing positive or uplifting, they "just say no."
