I am writing to complain about the practice of the Manatee Sheriff's Office charging $25 if an officer must respond to a house alarm. Recently our alarm company called us in Connecticut regarding an alarm at the rear bedroom door. They asked if the police should be notified and we responded "yes." It turned out to be a false alarm.
The next thing that happened was a bill that we received from the Sheriff's office for $25. I really believe that such a bill is a way to "stick" it to the snowbirds. What are we supposed to do? Wait until September when we are down again to see if there was a robbery?
An occasional visit from a police officer is all we ask, and that cost $25!
