How many of us have ever taken the time to fully review our bills? How many are aware of all the "surcharges" billed?
I received my FPL bill recently and once again was annoyed at the amount of the surcharges I must pay. The many individual taxes alone totaled $26.58.
It now appears the common practice for many companies is to charge each customer for preparing and sending the bill to the customer. In the case of FPL, the customer charge for sending me my bill is $7.57.
Several months ago I called to ask if there was any other way to receive the bill, i.e. direct withdrawal, by email, etc. and was informed there would still be a $7.57 for processing the bill.
Never miss a local story.
I realize the $7.57 monthly charge is not a huge amount for one customer, but multiply that by all of FPL's customers and it does add up quickly: $90.84 a year for one customer.
How many customers does FPL have? As an example I'll use 30,000 customers; that totals $2,725,200 a year for mailing customers a bill!
Why are elected officials allowing this and continue approving rate increases?
