Believe it or not, there is a beautiful, tranquil, old-style escape from the screams of the ambulances and hurly-burly noises of traffic on 59th Street West.
It is a jewel not so well hidden by any means, but often overlooked by so many. The sprawling shaded acreage is neatly well kept with plenty of old-style Florida trees and foliage.
I am referring to the Edward E. and Lillian H. Bishop S.P.C.A. Animal Shelter.
In all my 50-plus years growing up near 51st and 59th streets west, the Bishop Animal Shelter grounds haven't changed by one degree as to how Bradenton used to look back in the day.
Never miss a local story.
A perfect place to visit, relax and take doggie or kitty for a walk or just enjoy the peace and quiet for awhile.
A nice contribution for the satisfaction that you will receive would also be surely welcomed by the whole purpose of this "hidden jewel," the Edward E. and Lillian H. Bishop Animal Shelter.
Not a "hidden jewel," but the crown jewel on 59th Street from north to south!
