The demise of the USA, the greatest nation in history, can be explained -- simply by remembering what the Founding Fathers had planned for this country.
Our forefathers never envisioned the Congress they created to be one where elected officials would enjoy perks and favors unavailable to the rest of the populace: namely, unique access to insider information; lifelong healthcare and pensions (much better than the average citizen) at taxpayers' expense; the ability to incorporate nepotism in their employment practices; the ability to raise millions of dollars for election and re-election in such a way that the rich and powerful, as well as the lobbyists, have a much greater say in laws that are or are not enacted.
And worst of all, these politicians have the ability to be re-elected year after year with no term limits.
One would be hard pressed to find a really honest, trustworthy member of Congress. "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." The longer they're there, the more power they accrue.
We need to remember what the Founding Fathers strove to create. We need to end this free-ride, do-nothing, self-serving Congress by imposing term limits (12 years would be enough) and restoring accountability, responsibility, fairness, honesty, conscience, morality, and compassion in our elected officials.
Failure to do this will certainly cause a wider divide between rich and poor, and more violence, hatred, corruption and blame. We need to act before it is too late.
As in the novel "Animal Farm," our nation is going to the pigs.
