A $350,000 fountain in Palm Beach, the state's richest town? A dog park for $123,000 in an affluent Jacksonville neighborhood? Twelve million dollars for house speaker Will Weatherford's alma mater, a private college?
Floridians, are we not outraged by this news?
How do the people managing the state of Florida have the nerve to take taxpayers' money and spend it on their pet projects when the state is still No. 1 in the entire country in the number of foreclosures -- a problem of massive proportion that causes lower taxes, skewed property values, unkempt homes, increased crime, population turnover, fiscal stress on the local government, and deterioration of services?
How can they look at themselves in the mirror every morning and feel good about this? They must be so insulated from the ordinary populace despite negative comments that they just shrug it off and go to another awards banquet where they congratulate each other for the swell job they're doing.
It's disgraceful and self-serving. This is not what they were elected for.
