I am amazed at the times I read the names of the Koch brothers in the letters to the editor. Based on the letters I have read I could assume they are the decedents of Genghis Khan if not Hitler himself.
In truth it appears that they are rich men trying to affect the discourse on policy in our country. We do the same thing as members of AARP, NRA or any other lobby group.
It also amazes me that I don't often see the name of George Soros or Michael Broomburg, who are trying to do the same thing. Not to mention Warren Buffet.
The reality of life is that if you are rich or in a position of power, you can talk to the political class any time you want and they will at least appear to listen.
Back in the day I was the general manager of an utility on a rich island and a call to a county commissioner would always be answered or returned.
In fact, there is nothing new under the sun. If I call the White House, I might get an intern. If Bill Gates calls, he will speak to the president or at least his chief of staff.
Get over it, this is the way of the homo sapiens.
