My colleague and fellow Southwest Florida delegation member, Sen. Garrett Richter, recently wrote about his support of the effort to fund the dispersed water storage project list of the South Florida Water Management District.
As I watch the local weather and see the storms consistently over our region, I know the rainy season is upon us and we need to plan ahead to capture and store rain water.
The issue of water quality and quantity is not new to those of us living in Southwest Florida. We understand the continued need for vigilance and conservation, and also understand the need to make sure that our waterways are protected and our aquifers are not damaged and diminished.
It is because of these concerns that I join Sen. Richter in supporting the need to fund SFWMD's list of approved water storage projects, using public-private partnerships to store dispersed water on private, local lands.
Water projects are vital all across the state, with each one carrying great significance and addressing a need.
I will continue to ask my fellow senators to add this vital funding to the list of priorities.
