Talk about mixed emotions. The article and accompanying picture on the front page of the April 3 Herald, showing 79-year-old Doreen Landstra at her court appearance really caught my attention. Being a senior citizen myself, I felt both empathy for her yet surprise and disappointment at her driver's license being revoked for only a year.
Granted, it was an accident, but she did in fact kill three people. She is also seen in court supported by a walker. You have to wonder what her physical capabilities are with regard to coordination and reaction time. It is not my intention to point a disparaging finger at all older drivers, but in this case I strongly feel that her license should have been permanently revoked.
