They said they were for the children of Manatee County.
The Manatee County School Board is blessed to have two long-termed veteran members who profess loudly and often that they are serving "for the children." Unfortunately, their voting pattern tells a different story.
These two veterans seem to be more concerned with their own self-serving interests.
Where were their concerns when the academic scores plummeted from being number 30 in the state to a dismal number 55, where we now stand in shame? Why weren't they demanding answers from the administration and demanding a focus on education?
These two have been on the board since 2010 when the financial position of the school district was showing signs of financial mismanagement. Why did they ignore citizens warning about lack of transparency and impending financial problems?
Why did they continue to approve budgets and financial statements that had deficit balances and budget overspending?
One member continually bragged about meeting with the superintendent frequently and became golfing buddies with him. This same member used his close ties with the superintendent to assure the public that all was fine with the finances.
The other member seemed to abrogate all responsibilities and voted in favor of the majority board.
Why did they continually give glowing assessments to the superintendent who now sits at home collecting $7,500 per month and thinks that this situation is "hilarious?"
Where will the citizens of Manatee County get the answers to these and many more questions? Where will the students who have been denied an adequate education look for their future?
Too many questions begging for answers. The answers are in the ballot box. Voters, get smart, and stop reelecting self-serving incompetents!
