I agree with the writer who lamented the fact that a woman who let one of her babies suffocate and gave another away will nevertheless still be permitted to retain custody of a third child as long as she takes parenting classes.
Dogs and babies are helpless; both should be protected to the greatest extent possible, and those who harm them should not be allowed to have any more of them.
At People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), we help prosecutors bring to justice people who have caused horrific suffering by starving, beating, or neglecting individuals who just happened to be born a member of a species other than human but who feel every bit as much as humans do when it comes to pain and fear.
It should also be remembered that someone who willfully harms or kills a dog or other animal is a danger to the whole community as their disrespect and callousness usually doesn't stop there.
