Eskimo lore tells us that a tribe took their older, non-productive members, put them in a chair on an iceberg and shoved them out to sea -- problem solved!
Our reaction: barbaric, shock, much clucking, tutting and condemnations.
Our modern recommended solution: take away our entitlements that we have invested in for years and shove us out to a cold, inflated world to do the best we can.
Those same Eskimos would have considered that barbaric -- to abandon the old folks to extended hardship in an uncaring, cold world.
Never miss a local story.
If we continue this line of thinking, what will happen to our children who will have to cope in a world without a middle class -- just rulers and rabble?
