As a local teacher I am absolutely thrilled with President Obama's commitment to expand broadband connectivity to 15,000 schools and 20 million students in the next two years. With more and more work at school moving to the Internet, the speed of our school network is a crippling factor in learning.
Our Manatee County school district has done miracles in improving our Internet connectivity, but there is still a long way to go. I look forward to the time that a student can login to their computer and get to work in seconds and never have to worry that the network will be there for them to finish their work.
Learning should be a challenge for the mind and not an ordeal waiting for the equipment to catch up.
