As we begin this new year, can all drivers please show some respect and consideration on our roadways?
I was heading back home to East Manatee from a store located on Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota County. I was already in the lane to get onto the interstate heading north when a black four-door pickup truck decided to cut me off and inch his way in.
I knew what he was going to do when I saw that front bumper so I allowed him to get in front of me.
No wave to say "thank you." No acknowledgement or any consideration.
Never miss a local story.
Sad thing is when we were on the interstate he decided to show the same inconsiderate manner. I would not be surprised if his speed surpassed 85 mph. One does not have to be "under the influence;" speed alone can kill.
I am making a request for all the drivers: Be considerate. Wave; it is not going to kill you. Signal for permission. Flash your lights for a go ahead or warn.
We have had enough deaths on our roadways. Let's make this year one of our safest.
Most important, we all need to watch out for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists.
