I am curious how much money is brought in by the Manatee County sheriff’s false alarm tax.
I was unfortunate enough to have had three false alarms several years ago, and now must annually pay this tax on my home alarm.
Recently, my alarm went off and the police responded, and I was charged an additional tax for their response. I understand that there has been a problem of false alarms, and that these take up valuable police resources.
However, I wonder how much it costs to investigate a crime after it has occurred. I wonder why the sheriff basically discourages the citizens of Manatee County from actually using their alarms.
I understand that if there is a repetitive problem, something must be addressed. However, I have not had a false alarm at my residence for several years, yet I am still punished rather severely.
Are there statistics on the number of home invasions/robberies/etc. for homes with vs. without alarms or for those who do not use their alarms? Just curious.
