Myra Jones, in an Oct. 12 letter to the editor, pointed out the shocking number of cases in the paper, as of late, of parents abusing or killing their children. I, too, have been horrified by this.
However, I believe Ms. Jones has it exactly backwards. She seemed to say that the killing of unwanted children in utero is justified to prevent parents from abusing or killing their children later.
Killing to prevent killing doesn’t make sense! Instead, it has given rise to a culture of death.
Since Roe vs. Wade, people have been given the impression that children are their parents property to dispose of as they please. Sadly, people tend to think that if something is legal, it is moral.
How can you tell a teenage girl that she can kill her child up until the moment it is born, but that she will go to jail for life if she kills the child five minutes after it is born?
Already Peter Singer, a much lauded Princeton professor, is suggesting that parents should have the right to kill a child after it is born up until a certain age. Where will it end?
Abortion was supposed to prevent child abuse, but it has only caused it to spread dramatically.
Ms. Jones also said “Right-to-Lifers” only want to control other people and don’t care about child abuse. But we would say, isn’t it the ultimate way of controlling and abusing another person to kill him while he is yet helpless and before he has a chance at life?
Abortion cruel; put unwanted babies adoption
This is too funny. In a letter to the editor Wednesday, Myra Jones seems to think the way to spare children from being abused is abortion. If a child is killed in the womb it won’t run any risk of being hurt later.
And where did she get the idea that Right to Life people are against birth control? Has she statistics to support her assertions?
In Greece, a long time ago, it was the custom for the midwife who delivered a baby to bring it to the father.
If he wanted to keep the baby, it would be accepted. If he didn’t want the baby, it would be put out on a mountain for the wolves. Sometimes a shepherd would find it and bring it home.
This seems cruel. But abortion is crueler. Nobody even looks at the baby before it is killed. It is called a fetus and destroyed as if it were an offending piece of flesh.
People watch nests to preserve turtles’ eggs. There are laws against killing endangered species. Do we care more for offspring of animals than our own children?
Since abortion is so common, adoption is becoming rare. Babies who might have been given loving homes by people who want children are killed, destroyed before they have a chance to live.
