have written a few letters about the teaching profession. I am finished writing these letters because it has spun out of control. I am not anti-teacher, not by a long shot. I do admire what you do and fully understand what you go through week to week. So to those of you who feel I am wrong, I offer my apology.
I do still strongly feel accountability is important. As in any profession, every employee is accountable for their end result. You may feel your job is harder than most and accountability is hard to rate.
I do understand that but most of all you are accountable to the students that are in your classroom. Those students are there to learn.
Some have trouble grasping the information while it comes easy to others. Some will not openly tell you they don’t understand and are afraid of the embarrassment that comes with not understanding what you are teaching.
You will recommend that students ask for help from their parents on homework. What if the parent doesn’t understand the assignment either? Then where does the student go for help?
What if they have a learning disability but do not want others to know they are being mainstreamed into regular classes? Where do they go for help? I don’t know but I do count on teachers knowing where they can get help.
Again, I am sorry for upsetting teachers. Please, feel you are accountable to those students that really want to learn.
