In the District 3 race for school board, the citizens of Manatee County have sent a clear message. They are ready for a change of course.
The incumbent who received an unprecedented 63 percent in 2012 failed to get the 50 percent he needed to ensure his seat for another four years. Instead, Misty Servia cemented a solid second place finish and will now go into November doing everything she can to be that change.
Recently my wife, children and I met Misty Servia for the first time. She is as genuine and real as she was on the phone. She has a wonderful family, and unlike a lot of politicians I have met, I believed every word she said. I know in my heart she wants not just her children to succeed, but mine as well — and for that matter, all children in Manatee County.
The incumbent had his chance and, like he has done so often in the last four years, the residents of Manatee County are changing their minds about him. Dave Miner can be vulgar in public, something he has proven at Jessie P. Miller. He at one time accused a former superintendent of being a bully; I am here to ask has he looked in the mirror.
Misty Servia, a genuine caring mother and advocate who will represent every child in Manatee County as if they where her own. It is time to right the ship and continue the move in the right direction.
