It's heartening to hear that Manatee County Commissioner Larry Bustle is on the mend after he suffered a stroke while attending a Manatee County Chamber of Commerce breakfast with the region's legislative delegation in May.
He hopes to return home by late August and continue recovering and rehabilitation. In September, he's planning on taking part in commission meetings via telephone followed by regular attendance in person by October.
That should help settle constituent concerns that his District 1 lacks representation on the commission due to his long absence. The 80-year-old Bustle, however, gives thanks to the county's two at-large commissioners, Carol Whitmore and Betsy Benac, for "staying on top of the issues in my district," he said in a statement to the county.
His participation in meetings in September comes at a critical time with two public hearings on the 2015-2016 county budget scheduled followed by commission approval before the fiscal year begins on Oct. 1.
A healthy Bustle's return to the dais will be most welcome.
