Kudos to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.
The Legislature abdicated its responsibility to protect the people from prescription drug abuse by failing to fund the state's key tool in fighting this societal scourge.
The Prescription Drug Monitoring Program provides a database so doctors can verify that patients have not been collecting multiple scripts in a medically unnecessary time frame.
Bondi bailed out the program by committing $2 million, money out of a 2008 drug fraud settlement. With the database operating on $500,000 a year, Bondi's pledge will keep the program running for four years.
Thank goodness our attorney general is a strong support of the database.
