The terrific public embrace of Bradenton's Riverwalk brings an enormous amount of goodwill to the city. Now comes news the city intends to double the size to 3 miles eastward.
What a cool and wonderful development, even if several years away. Patience pays off. Riverwalk as it now stands had been a gleam in the city's eyes for many, many years before becoming a reality.
The city will once again conduct a community visioning exercise to determine resident desires. While the park's extension may not enjoy the amenities of the current attraction because of site limitations, walkers, runners and bicyclists will no doubt feast on a longer opportunity for exercise, fresh air and scenic views.
While all the land has not been secured yet, Bradenton Mayor Wayne Poston expressed confidence in the project to the Herald's Editorial Board this week. Three cheers to that.
With property values along Riverwalk rising some 20 percent to 40 percent, according to the Bradenton Downtown Development Authority, we'd expect property owners along the extended route would be leaping aboard an extension.
Good news all around.
