Bradenton Riverwalk scored another coup with Friday's unveiling of an outdoor exhibition of artwork and quotes called Embracing Our Differences.
After nine years exclusively in Sarasota, this celebration of tolerance will grace downtown Bradenton and North Port this year with 30 billboard-size images created by artists and writers from around the region, nation and world.
Riverwalk enjoyed another honor this week by being named the region's top cultural, sports and recreational project in the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council's 21st Annual Future of the Region Awards. That well-deserved first-place recognition builds on Riverwalk's growing reputation as a wondrous destination.
The council judges projects in Manatee, Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties to honor achievements in resource planning and management, which makes little old Bradenton proud to best the big boys to the north.
Never miss a local story.
Embracing Our Differences stretches across three Riverpark locations, the day docks, pavilion, and kayak and canoe launch.
Students in Manatee, Sarasota and Charlotte counties are well represented among the artists and quote authors. This highly visible exhibit will stand in Bradenton until April 29.
One of our favorite quotes comes from a seventh-grader at Sarasota's Booker Middle School, named "Best in Show." Thirteen-year-old Grace Castilow cast this complex gem: "No one deserves to be limited by another's perspective."
This one also bears remembering: "When you exclude someone, you exclude an opportunity."
Eloquent words indeed, especially coming from an 11-year-old. Noah Font, a fifth-grader at Palma Sola Elementary, composed this during his gifted class. He's certainly wise beyond his years.
We highly recommend a visit to Riverwalk to embrace this exhibit.
