The National Hurricane Center says a tropical wave off the coast Africa has a "medium" chance of developing into a tropical storm or hurricane within the next five days.
The wave, accompanied by broad low pressure, is located a few hundreds miles east-southeast of the Cape Verde Islands, the Hurricane Center said at 2 p.m. EDT.
"Development, if any, of this disturbance is expected to be slow to occur over the next several days while it moves westward at about 15 mph.
Forecasters said there is a "low," or 10 percent,' chance of development within the next 48 hours.
Within the next five days, there is a "medium," or 30 percent, chance of development, according to the Hurricane Center.
