Miami police are looking for two men who threatened to shoot a baby while demanding that his mother hand over cash from a grocery store register.
The robbery happened just before 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Christiana Grocery, just north of Midtown Miami, police said.
The robbers approached the register to pay for bag of chips when one of them pulled a gun and pointed it at the clerk’s 9-month-old infant son who also was behind the counter with some toys.
“Give me everything you got or I’ll shoot him!” the robber yelled at the clerk, according to police.
Never miss a local story.
“They had the gun pointed at her, forced her to put her baby to the ground. They pointed the gun at the child, ... demanded them to give her the register,” Aubrey Watson, the store’s owner, told Miami Herald news partner CBS4. “They told her they would kill the baby if she made any noises, alerted the police, screamed or anything.”
The clerk, behind protective glass with an opening in which the robber stuck the gun through. then handed over the money from the register. The suspects ordered the mother to the ground, then grabbed the register tray and took off.
“She was very hurt by this. It’s her first child,” Watson said. “She was very hysterical and crying. I just hugged her and told her everything was gonna be OK.”
