Two bodies found in Lake Okeechobee have been identified as a Manatee County couple who went missing Feb. 5, said Carol Lyn Parrish, spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Never miss a local story.
John Russ, 72, and his wife , Diane, 62, were last seen on an air boat while fishing when a storm came over the lake.
The Lee County medical examiner determined the cause of death in both cases to be drowning, Parrish said.
Diane Russ' body was found by a fisherman Feb. 13 on the south side of the lake near Clewiston.
Five days later and about 3 miles away, John Russ' body was recovered by FWC officers.
The couple, from Myakka City, was last seen Feb. 5 on Bird Island, a shallow area on the western side of Lake Okeechobee near the Hamey Pond Canal boat ramp in Glades County.
The couple's vessel, 15-foot, 2000 Panther air boat, was found a day later submerged in 12-foot-deep waters near Bird Island.
