The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash that killed a 23-year-old woman after she was struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening.
A Toyota 4-Runner, driven by a 68-year-old man, was southbound in the median lane of Seminole Boulevard near the intersection of 53rd Avenue North in Seminole when the crash occurred around 8:45 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
A 23-year-old woman stepped into the road and was crossing Seminole Boulevard when investigators say she stepped in front of the vehicle. The driver was not able to stop before hitting the woman, who was not in a crosswalk, according to the sheriff’s office.
Paramedics who responded to the scene took the woman to St. Petersburg General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Officials say impairment and speed are not believed to be factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
