Student leaders at the University of Florida held a free speech forum Thursday, just a week before their school will host white nationalist Richard Spencer.
UF said that it isn’t affiliated with Spencer’s Oct. 19 event in any way, but since it’s a public institution, it must allow Spencer the chance to speak. But that doesn’t mean Gators don’t have anything to say about it.
The students’ planned free speech forum discussed the complexities involved in bringing Spencer, known for his divisive comments on race, to campus.
UF estimates that security costs surrounding the event could total more than $500,000.
