MANATEE — The next generation of voting equipment may involve sleek, iPad-style electronic tablets that people use to register their preferences instead of clunky mechanical equipment, Manatee’s supervisor of elections said Wednesday.
Elections supervisor Mike Bennett said some of the latest in voting equipment involves iPad-style tablets that would be designated for use at polling places during elections.
Bennett was out-of-town Wednesday looking at some of the latest voting equipment.
He will have about $2 million to spend on equipment, should he find some high-tech system he thinks would perform well, according to Nick Azzara, the county’s information outreach coordinator.

Another $600,000 is in the budget for renovations to the elections’ office at 600 301 Blvd., W., Suite 108, Bradenton, Azzara said.
