MIAMI -- Donald Trump is unimpressed by ¡Jeb! Bush’s command of the Spanish language.
So Trump had a message for Bush Wednesday: Habla inglés.
“I like Jeb,” Trump told conservative Breitbart News website Wednesday. “He’s a nice man. But he should really set the example by speaking English while in the United States.”
Bush, who ripped Trump on Tuesday in Miami en español, was on a plane Wednesday night and didn’t respond to Trump — in any language. He did earlier this week.
"The man is not conservative,” Bush said of Trump. “Besides, he tries to personalize everything. If you’re not totally in agreement with him you’re an idiot or stupid or don’t have energy or blah, blah, blah."
The Republican Party has spent three years trying to overcome Mitt Romney’s foot-in-mouth comment that immigrants in the country illegally — many of them from Latin America — should “self-deport.” Party leaders have nurtured a promising political bench that boasts of last names like Cruz, Martinez, Rubio and Sandoval.
Trump the politician might set the GOP back on that front. But Trump the real-estate tycoon seems in lock-step with the party’s push for diversity.
An online job description for a housekeeper at his Trump’s resort in Doral — a city where 91 percent of people speak a language other than English at home — says, “Knowledge of other languages, especially Spanish is a plus.” For an overnight manager: “Bi-lingual English/Spanish desired.”
