WASHINGTON -- Soldiers from Manatee and Sarasota serving in Washington, D.C. were visited Thursday by U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Sarasota.
The congressman visited about 20 soldiers from Bradenton, Palmetto, Sarasota and Venice at the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.
The service members are stationed in Washington as part of the Integrated Air Defense System, in support of Operation Noble Eagle. The operation is a yearlong mission in coordination with the U.S. Department of Defense to protect the nation's capital from airborne threats, according to a press release from Buchanan's office.
"I could not be more proud to represent the men and women of Southwest Florida tasked with protecting our nation’s capital," said Buchanan, who represents the Manatee-Sarasota area. "I was impressed by their courage, professionalism and dedication to this very important mission. As citizen soldiers, these men and women represent the very best of the United States."
