MANATEE — A portion of a street closed since April 12 has re-opened in Bradenton, according to Manatee County public works officials.
County officials on Thursday re-opened a portion of 51st Street West at Cortez Road, but part of the street remained closed. There is still a detour in place for drivers in the area.
The Manatee County Public Works Department is installing a waterline under Cortez Road and closed the cross street for about 120 feet, both north and south of Cortez Road. The southern portion of the project was re-opened Thursday, but the northern portion still remains closed. The rest of the project is slated to wrap up May 7.
Construction work is not interfering with eastbound and westbound traffic along Cortez Road, since the waterline under the roadway is being installed with a horizontal boring machine.
Never miss a local story.
The recommended detours take drivers heading south on 51st Street West, west along 21st Avenue West to 59th Street West, then south to Cortez Road. Those heading north on 51st Street West should drive west on 53rd Avenue West to 66th Street West, then turn north to Cortez Road.
Traffic heading east or west on Cortez Road should follow those directions in reverse.
