A veterans group has endorsed 13th Congressional District challenger Christine Jennings, her campaign said.
Veterans and Military Families for Progress cited Jennings' "strong commitment to the issues that are critical to veterans, those serving now, and their families" in its endorsement.
The group, based in Washington D.C., said it is a non-partisan, noNprofit organization that focuses on raising public awareness of veterans issues, especially those facing soldiers upon their return home from active duty.
Jennings, a Democrat, is among three candidates seeking to unseat Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Sarasota. The others are independents Don Baldauf and Jan Schneider.
Group rails against Buchanan lawsuits
MANATEE - A conservative advocacy group's Florida chapter is railing against a spate of lawsuits filed against Rep. Vern Buchanan and his automotive dealerships, calling it "another example of out of control lawsuit abuse."
Florida FreedomWorks said in a recent news release that it plans to "raise awareness of this outrageous example of lawsuit abuse by mobilizing its statewide army of volunteer activists."
A Tallahassee attorney has filed several lawsuits against Sarasota Ford and other Buchanan dealerships on behalf of former employees. The suits accuse the dealerships of wrongfully firing employees, committing financial and consumer fraud, coercing employee donations to Buchanan's 2006 campaign and hiring illegal aliens, among other charges.
The dealerships have denied the accusations, saying it's part of a political smear campaign against Buchanan as he seeks re-election to the 13th Congressional District seat.
