MANATEE — The Manatee County School District on Thursday will celebrate the acceptance of a $1.7 million federal grant to enhance American History teaching. The celebration is scheduled to take place at Manatee Historical Village at 7 p.m., according to information from the district.
This year’s grant — the Fountains of Freedom Liberty Fellowship — will provide 40 Manatee district elementary school teachers in third through fifth grades with training that helps them develop new skills to teach and enrich students’ knowledge of American history. The training will include seminars and field trips to historical locales, including Kennedy Space Center, St. Augustine and Key West.

Benefit concert set
BRADENTON — A benefit concert will take place Dec. 10 from 7-9 p.m. at Lov A-Da Coffee, 2127 Cortez Road W. in Bradenton.
The concert, organized by Manatee High School’s Students Taking Action Now: Darfur club, will feature local Manatee High School musicians.
Admission is free and 30 percent of the coffee shop proceeds will be donated to the Genocide Intervention Network, an organization which is committed to ending genocide.
