BRADENTON — Wakeland Elementary School of International Studies today is holding a Young Author’s Celebration in the school’s media center.
Stories from two students in each classroom were selected for inclusion in a book put together by Wakeland, and those students will receive special recognition during the ceremony, according to information from the Manatee County School District. Parents and family members are invited.
There will be two celebrations: one at 8:45 a.m. for kindergarten, second and fourth grades; and another at 9:45 a.m. for Pre-kindergarten, first, third and fifth grades.

Lincoln Middle FFA nets honors at rabbit show
MANATEE — Lincoln Middle School FFA members Kaitlyn Richman and Dillan Isterling recently took top honors at a 4H/FFA rabbit show.
Dillan, a sixth-grader, won “Best of Breed,” according to information from the Manatee County School District. Kaitlyn, a seventh-grader, won a “First Place Blue.”
Braden River Elementary welcoming back soldier
EAST MANATEE — Students and staff at Braden River Elementary are being asked to wear red, white and blue to school Nov. 24 to welcome back Capt. Tom Albrecht, who is returning from serving in the U.S. military in Qatar.
Albrecht is the husband of Braden River Elementary PTO President Tia Albrecht, according to information from the Manatee County School District.
He will be honored at a ceremony at 9 a.m.
Recently, students and staff at the school collected more than 900 pounds of leftover Halloween candy to send to Albrecht and Capt. Bradley Denisar, the son of kindergarten teacher Diana Denisar, who is serving in Afghanistan.
