11/19 LOCAL BRIEFS: St. Joseph pantry seeks donations

BRADENTON — The St. Joseph Food Pantry seeks donations as it plans to prepare bags of food for an anticipated 7,200 families this holiday season.

Parishioners and St. Joseph students have been challenged to donate 8,320 cans of vegetables.

Parish friends, businesses, clubs, organizations and schools are asked to help with food.

Donations may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at the food pantry, 3100 26th St. W., or at the parish office Monday afternoon.

Lakewood Ranch Fall Art Show set for Saturday

LAKEWOOD RANCH — The Creative Arts Association of Lakewood Ranch will present its Fall Art Show from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Lakewood Ranch Town Hall.

The annual holiday gifts and art show features original works by local award-winning artists and artisans in various mediums, including watercolor, jewelry, pottery, ceramic, wood works, lamps, pastels, acrylic, tiles, mixed media, Feng Shui products and more. The event is free and open to the public.

VFW 9226 Christmas packing party Saturday

ELLENTON — VFW 9226 Ladies Auxiliary and Men’s Auxiliary, in conjunction with Manasota Operation Troop Support, will make Christmas packages for soldiers serving from Manatee County at 11 a.m. Saturday at VFW 9226, 3511 12th St. E.

There will be a cookout and games for the kids, as well as the assembling of snack packs, stockings and mini-Christmas trees for mailing. Call Angela Silva at 812-2113.

Tallevast Community Center going ‘green’

TALLEVAST — The Tallevast Community Center will kick off its Green Wall Program with a Go Green Initiative Day from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the center, 7727 17th St. Court E.

The public is invited to help children plant organic vegetable seeds in decorated containers attached to the Green Wall.

Organic gardening and green information packages will be distributed at the event.

Randy Estelle’s Grand Christmas planned

EAST MANATEE — Thirteen-year-old Cassidy Johnson, of Parrish, will be a featured performer during Randy Estelle’s Grand Christmas at one of the four grand pianos anchoring the show.

Jan Bell and Jannette Derstine, both of Bradenton, will round out the quartet. The Grand Christmas Band and Singers, led by soloist Dawn McClendon, will also perform Christmas songs.

Students from Circle, a school of arts and media, a part of Courtyard Media Ministries, which is producing the show, will perform the pre-show and be on stage for a special song.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 27, and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 28. Free child care is available for children 2 and younger.

Tickets range in price from $12 to $18, with discounts for two or more tickets. Tickets for children are $5.

Free H1N1 flu vaccine available in Sarasota

SARASOTA — The Sarasota County Health Department will offer free H1N1 flu vaccinations Saturday to those most at risk of contracting the flu under Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

The vaccinations will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the health department, 2200 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota, and George Mullen Activity Center, 4756 City Center Blvd., North Port.

One thousand doses will be available at each location. The nasal mist and injectable vaccine will be available.
