11/13 LOCAL BRIEFS: FDOT to discuss projects

ANNA MARIA ISLAND — The Florida Department of Transportation has scheduled a public meeting next week to update Anna Maria Island residents of ongoing and upcoming road projects.

Those projects include several funded by the federal economic stimulus package, including repairing two bridges in Holmes Beach and resurfacing some roads in Anna Maria.

The meeting is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 248 S. Harbor Drive, Holmes Beach.

Shrimp dish takes top honors at Chow Down

LAKEWOOD RANCH — Chow Down for Charity, sponsored by the Manatee Chapter of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, featured special dishes from seven local restaurants Thursday night. Taking top honors from the judges was the “Green Goddess Shrimp” by the Riverhouse Reef and Grill. Second-place honors went to the “Forbidden Scallops” by Sun House.

Benefiting from the event, which raised $4,335, were the South Florida Museum and the Manatee County Food Bank. The event was held at the Goldcoast Eagle Distributorship.

Scavenger hunt to benefit Gulf Shore Animal League

MANATEE — The Fourth Annual Gulf Shore Animal League Walter C. Watkins Memorial Scavenger Hunt 2009 is set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Teams of up to five will start the Scavenger Hunt at The Palma Sola Park Pavilion in west Bradenton. From there, they will embark on a wild adventure collecting fun and crazy items with stops all over Manatee County.
