MANATEE — At least two guns and other electronics were stolen during a rash of vehicle burglaries in Manatee overnight, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.

At least seven vehicles were broken into in the Center Lakes and Crescent Lakes developments off Prospect Road, the sheriff’s report said. All of the vehicles showed signs of forced entry.

Deputies believe the burglaries occurred between midnight and 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, with two handguns, a GPS system, stereos, a digital camera and laptop computer among items stolen in the crime wave.

Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 747-3011, or Crimestoppers at (866) 634-TIPS.

Walker killed on Cortez ID’d

MANATEE — A pedestrian killed trying to walk across Cortez Road Monday evening has been identified as 59-year-old Dennis L. Erlandson, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Erlandson, of Bradenton, stepped in front of a 1999 Ford pickup just before 6:30 p.m., while trying to walk across the busy road at 17th Street West, from the north shoulder to the south shoulder.

The driver of the truck was headed east on Cortez Road and could not avoid Erlandson. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the FHP report. No charges will be filed against the 33-year-old Bradenton man driving the pickup, according to troopers.

Neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the accident, but the incident is still under investigation, troopers said.
