Rubio set to stump in Bradenton

MANATEE — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio will be the guest speaker next week at a luncheon meeting of the East Manatee Republican Club.

Rubio, a former speaker of the Florida House, is challenging Gov. Charlie Crist for the GOP nomination for the seat now held by Sen. George LeMieux, whom Crist appointed after former Sen. Mel Martinez resigned.

The event is set for 11:30 a.m. Nov. 12 at Peridia Golf and Country Club, 4950 Peridia Blvd., Bradenton. Cost: $15.

No county records available for three days next week

MANATEE — The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office records department will be closed for at least three days next week.

Beginning Monday the sheriff’s records management system will be shutdown due to an upgrade of computer software. It’s estimated the upgrade will take two to three days.

Residents will not be able to obtain police reports or make criminal history checks until Nov. 12 at the earliest. The section will also be closed Nov. 11, Veterans Day.

Officials encourage residents to call to make sure the system is up. They can call 747-3011, ext. 2295, or check the sheriff’s Web site at www.manatee sheriff.com for updates.

Humane Society celebrates Vets Appreciation Month

MANATEE — Military veterans may receive a free rabies vaccination for their dog or cat with each spay or neuter procedure during November, Veterans Appreciation Month, at the Humane Society of Manatee County’s low-cost spay/neuter clinic, 2515 14th St. W., Bradenton.

Veterans also will receive $25 off the price of adoptions this month.
