MANATEE — Two women walking together to pick up their children from a school bus stop Wednesday afternoon were attacked by a man who grabbed one woman by the throat and robbed the other of a necklace, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.
Just before 2 p.m., the women, ages 47 and 22, were walking in the 5700 block of 10th Street East when a man approached and demanded a phone from one of the women.
The man then grabbed one of the victims by the throat and pulled a chain off her neck, which he dropped. The man then turned to the second woman, snatched her chain from her neck and fled, according to the report.
Deputies caught up with the man in the Pine Village area and he had the victim’s chain clutched in his fist.
Deputies say Anthony Allan Johnson, 19, of Bradenton, then resisted arrest and was taken into custody after a deputy stunned him with a Taser in the abdomen, according to the report.
The victim later identified the chain in Johnson’s hand as hers, and he was arrested on a charge of strong arm robbery, the report said.
Lincoln Middle put on lockdown after chase
PALMETTO — Lincoln Middle School was placed on lockdown for about an hour Wednesday after police chased a suspect nearby, according to Palmetto Police Chief Garry Lowe.
Lowe said when police responded at about 10 a.m. to a trespassing call in the 200 block of 14th Street East, a man ran away from officers. Palmetto officers and Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies chased the man and also searched for him with a K-9 dog, Lowe said.
Officers eventually captured Earl Sanders, who is in his early 20s, in the 200 block of 12th Street East, and arrested him on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of cocaine.
The chase was close enough to Lincoln Middle, 305 17th St. E., to prompt a lockdown, Lowe said. The lockdown lasted about an hour and was lifted without incident, the chief said.
