LAKEWOOD RANCH — The three newest additions to Main Street at Lakewood Ranch will celebrate their grand openings at an all-day event today.
The three stores are Good Earth, Katy Rose Oilery and Big Olaf ice creamery. To celebrate the newest additions, Main Street is hosting a fun-filled day packed with activities, giveaways and demonstrations from local organizations.
The schedule:
n Circus Sarasota clowns will perform at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
n Miss Toni and the Macaroni Band will perform at noon in front of Katy Rose Oilery.
n Members from the Braden River Orchestra will perform at 1 p.m. in front of Big Olaf.
n Karate demonstrations by Ming Wu Martial Arts will be at 2 p.m. in front of Good Earth and 3 p.m. in front of Katy Rose Oilery.
Besides performances, the clowns will offer magic and balloon animals throughout the day. There will also be a variety of other activities in addition to free samples, in-store demos and tastings.
Grape Escape wine tasting to aid Alzheimer’s group
MANATEE — The second Grape Escape wine tasting and networking event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Freedom Village, 6406 21st Ave. W.
There will be culinary demonstrations by executive chef Luciano Silva and award-winning wines provided by Southern Wine & Spirits.
The cost is $20 with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association Florida Gulf Coast Chapter.

FDOT launches U.S. 301 project Web site
SARASOTA — The Florida Department of Transportation has launched a Web site dedicated to a U.S. 301 widening project in Sarasota.
The site, www.myus 301sarasota.com, contains information on the $18.3 million project to widen the road between Wood and Myrtle streets. The project began earlier this month.
The site contains maps and written descriptions of the work, press releases focusing on project milestones and lane closures, weekly RoadWatch Updates, a list of frequently asked questions, a photo gallery and links to other transportation and business Web sites.
